'Aint no Saint' Bag School
Leather Handbag Making Courses
The Images below show the superb work of some former students
who attended one of the 'Aint no Saint's Bag School' Lea
ther Handbag Making Courses.
'Aint no Saint Bag School' is an exciting new concept in bag production allowing people to produce professionally finished leather handbags using proper industry construction methods with just a normal domestic sewing machine. On the courses featured here, alot of sewing experience is not essential, but you will need to know how to work your own sewing machine.
LEATHER HANDBAG MAKING COURSES: Make the bag of your dreams:
On these technical courses the Tutor will help you develop the design for your bag, help you choose the best construction method(one that best represents your design idea and that can be achieved on a flat bed domestic machine), teach you how to cut a professional pattern and construct it using professional industry methods using your own domestic sewing machine.
Although these courses are not certificated, the tuition format is quite formal. This is due to the nature of the Bag Making process which is lengthy and complex. The technical skills taught on these courses are professional industry standard, comparable to those found on a diploma course. For those wishing to have a more recreational bag making experience, the 1 or 2 Day Weekend Workshops might be more suitable. Please feel free to contact the Tutor to discuss your options.
The subjects covered on these courses include:
* Learning and understanding the intricate art of accurate pattern cutting
* Making cloth/card mock ups for design testing and problem solving
* Learning to work with industry tools, methods and materials
* Building up a file of sample test pieces
* Learning how to create that perfect finish including beautiful straight stitching.
TERM-TIME OPEN PROJECT LEATHER WORKSHOPS
These workshops are designed to get you started on a project of your own choosing, whether it's making a bag, a belt or other accessory, converting a dress pattern from being made in fabric to leather, making leather home furnishings....the possibilities are endless.
The 2 and a half hour sessions are not taught, but are managed by a skilled leather designer/maker who will guide, advise and arm you with leather making skills to help you achieve your project. These 'Term time' workshops are a rolling course generally spanning 10 weeks (though extra sessions can be added on by arrangement with the Tutor at a price of £12.95 per extra session per person) where projects whether long or short, simple or complex, can be worked on in an inspiring and creative environment. Any number of projects can be worked on at the same time by individual students; this could be helpful for those who are developing a prototype for manufacturing, working on a college asignment or simply for those who have lots of great design ideas that they just want to work on as they wish or when they require them. Whatever the reasons, whatever the project, you can be assured of being helped to produce a high quality product through using professional leather industry skills; and as with all of our courses and workshops, the idea being that all of these things can be achieved within reason on your own domestic sewing machine. Students are requested to speak to the Tutor before enrolling, to discuss their project aspirations as some compromises may need to be made or alternative equipment may need to be sourced.
LEATHER BAG/ACCESSORY MAKING WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Great for those who wish to combine a weekend getaway and learn a great skill at the same time or an opportunity for people living locally to make the most of these unique Workshops in a great location.
These workshops are not designed to teach you the technical side of pattern cutting, but to enable you to reproduce a more simple leather item using really interesting construction methods from an idea or actual pattern template designed by the Tutor. It's a great way of getting a feel for working with leather. The idea is to bring your own machine, so that you're reasonably confident sewing with it and of course to give it an exciting adventure holiday weekend! But if it's unsuitable to bring your own, please notify the Tutor so that one can be provided for you. These Workshops vary in length from 3 hours to one or two days.
The subjects covered on these workshops include:
* Learning to work with industry tools, methods and materials
* Learning how to create that perfect finish including beautiful straight stitching.
